Myles Garrett Says He Will Apologize to Browns for Asking Cowboys to Draft Him
Myles Garrett is ready to apologize to the Cleveland Browns.
After a video emerged in February of Garrett's request that the Dallas Cowboys trade up and select him with the top pick in the draft, the Texas A&M edge-rusher said Saturday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis that he plans to tell the Cleveland brass he's "sorry" when the two sides sit down Saturday night.
According to ESPN.com's Jeff Legwold, Garrett told reporters he didn't think his initial comments "would be taken so seriously" after he advocated for the Cowboys to deal Tony Romo and a handful of draft picks for the No. 1 selection:
"Me just being who I am, just joking around, being light-hearted, don't mean to offend anybody," Garrett said of the video, per Legwold. "I crack a joke every now and then, but I'll play for anybody. ... [Weather] doesn't matter to me."
Should the Browns like what they hear from Garrett, he would seem to be the logical selection when they're on the clock first on April 27.
As Bleacher Report's Matt Miller noted, "Garrett is a 6'5", 270-pound team-changing presence coming off the right edge of the defense."
Broken down further, NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah (via NFL.com's Chase Goodbread) recently compared the consensus top prospect to a couple of established pass-rushing greats.
"You look at Von Miller, he bends different than anybody else in the NFL, so you can't really compare him there. Khalil Mack is a little bit shorter, a little bit more compact, and more of a power-based rusher. (Garrett) kind of combines the two worlds," Jeremiah said. "He can win with speed on the outside, but he also has that power to run right through a tackle."
And with two first-round picks (Nos. 1 and 12), the Browns have the luxury of being able to take Garrett and then entertain the thought of adding a quarterback 11 picks later as they seek to expedite their rebuild.
