Baylor Women's Basketball Coach Kim Mulkey Addresses Sexual Assault Concerns
Kim Mulkey, head coach of Baylor's women's basketball team, offered an impassioned defense of the school in light of the sexual assault scandal that continues to be the focus of an NCAA investigation, according to Outside the Lines' Paula Lavigne and Mark Schlabach.
Per John Elizondo of ABC 25 in Waco, Texas, Mulkey made these comments after the Bears defeated Texas Tech on Saturday:
After the dust had settled on Baylor's 86-48 win, Mulkey expanded on the comments during the postgame press conference, per Elizondo:
In January, a lawsuit filed by a former student alleged 31 different Baylor football players committed 52 "acts of rape" between 2011 and 2014, per the Dallas Morning News.
A representative from the state of Texas proposed a resolution earlier this week in which the Texas Rangers would investigate Baylor for its alleged improprieties.
The Big 12 voted earlier this month to withhold 25 percent of Baylor's revenue share "until an outside review determines the university and athletic department are complying with Title IX guidelines and other regulations in the wake of a campus sexual assault scandal," per Ralph D. Russo of the Associated Press.
Mulkey has been the head coach of Baylor's women's basketball team since 2000. She won her 500th game with the Bears on Saturday and led the program to national titles in 2005 and 2012.
