Malik Monk set a Kentucky freshman record with 47 points, including the game-winning three, to lead the Wildcats to a 103-100 win over No. 7 North Carolina in Saturday night's CBS Sports Classic at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The game was an instant classic that was everything you'd expect and more from a matchup featuring two of college basketball's blue bloods.
The Wildcats (10-1) led for virtually the whole way but fell behind 98-95 on a Justin Jackson three with just over 90 seconds to play in regulation. Monk immediately ran his team down the floor and matched to bring the raucous crowd to its feet and set up the dynamite finish.
