WWE TLC 2016: Updated Match Card, Predictions for Entire PPV

Aaron BowerDec 1, 2016

WWE SmackDown's final pay-per-view of 2016 is just days away, and the action at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs on Sunday is sure to set the blue brand up for an intriguing start to 2017.

The chaos brought by the stipulations involved will make for an entertaining night—as will the matchups that we know about so far.

SmackDown has been the leading brand in the first few months since the brand split, and its dominance should continue on Sunday night with another good show.

But what kinds of surprises can WWE fans expect this weekend? Will there be any shock heel or babyface turns? Any thoughts that the event will run smoothly and go off without a swerve or two seem unlikely.

Here's a look at the card as it stands for Sunday night, as well as some predictions for the night's biggest bouts.

Updated Match Card

1 of 4

As of this writing, here is the updated match card for WWE TLC 2016, per WWE.com:

  • Kalisto vs. Baron Corbin (chairs match)
  • Nikki Bella vs. Carmella (No Disqualification match)
  • Heath Slater and Rhyno vs. The Wyatt Family (SmackDown Tag Team Championship)
  • The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler (ladder match, Intercontinental Championship)
  • Becky Lynch vs. Alexa Bliss (tables match, SmackDown Women's Championship)
  • AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose (Tables, Ladders & Chairs match, WWE World Championship)

Prediction: The Miz's Feud with Daniel Bryan Will Intensify

2 of 4

With this billed as the final meeting between The Miz and Dolph Ziggler—and the current intercontinental champion unlikely to drop the belt this weekend—it's interesting to ponder what's next for The Hollywood A-Lister and Maryse.

Given how tensions have been simmering between The Miz and SmackDown general manager Daniel Bryan since the summer, this would be an appropriate time to step up their feud a touch.

Bryan can't return to the ring and take on his former NXT mentor, but he can make life difficult for The Miz in the coming weeks.

So expect that, once The Miz beats Ziggler, Bryan will respond with a number of potential new opponents for the champion.

It will be fascinating to see where it all leads heading into 2017.

Prediction: Eva Marie Interferes in a Match

3 of 4

Just where is Eva Marie?

Since her suspension for a violation of the wellness policy in mid-September, she's been suspiciously absent from WWE programming.

It's been almost three months since she could have returned to SmackDown, and there has to be an endgame to her scripted absence.

So why not use SmackDown's final pay-per-view of 2016 as an opportunity to set her up for a promising start to next year?

With two women's division matches on the card, she could realistically interfere in either of them. The title match between Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss could be a decent opportunity for her to screw Lynch and set up a feud with The Lass Kicker, but the other match feels like a better fit.

There, she could cost Nikki Bella a victory and set up a feud with her fellow Total Divas star.

Prediction: James Ellsworth Turns on Dean Ambrose

4 of 4

This one feels like the most obvious swerve this Sunday.

Like so many of the matches on the TLC card, Sunday's main event is set to be the culmination of the feud between Dean Ambrose and AJ Styles.

So there will be controversy, and it will likely involve James Ellsworth.

At the moment, it looks like Ellsworth will do anything possible to help Ambrose win, but that should change on Sunday.

Ellsworth's WWE career got off to a promising start, but turning him heel from here would be the smartest move. WWE fans can turn on babyfaces in a matter of weeks these days, and it looks like Ellsworth's time as the lovable, plucky underdog is coming to an end.

Aligning him with Styles or even pushing him into a feud with Ambrose would make sense.
