North Carolina led for every minute of the Maui Invitational championship game, holding Wisconsin nearly eight minutes without a point at the start on its way to a 71-56 victory on Wednesday night.
The fourth-ranked Tar Heels (7-0) completed a dominant run through the field—their three victories were by a combined 90 points—despite a poor shooting effort in the first half because. They were 11-of-29 from the field in the opening 20 minutes but shot 60.7 percent in the second half to build on a 29-20 edge, leading by 24 at one point.
Kennedy Meeks had 15 points and a career-high 16 rebounds while Joel Berry scored 22 on 9-of-12 shooting. Wisconsin got 15 points from Vitto Brown and 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and four blocks from Ethan Happ but the Badgers (4-2) shot 38.2 percent.
