Week 6 NFL Picks: Vegas Odds, Spread Advice and Predictions

Steve SilvermanOct 13, 2016

The Buffalo Bills appear to have turned things around quite nicely since losing the first two games of their season.

The second loss, a 37-31 defeat at the hands of the New York Jets in a nationally televised Thursday night game, was met with anger and embarrassment by the organization. It seemed like the Bills were once again a losing team that would struggle to avoid double-digit losses and would send head coach Rex Ryan packing at the end of the season.

However, the Bills have won three straight games since then, and the winning streak appears to have been fueled by the decision to fire offensive coordinator Greg Roman and replace him with assistant head coach/running backs coach Anthony Lynn.

Not only have they gotten consistent production from running back LeSean McCoy (447 yards and five touchdowns), but quarterback Tyrod Taylor has started to play consistently, even though No. 1 wideout Sammy Watkins (foot) is on injured reserve. Taylor has completed 61.9 percent of his passes and has a 6-2 TD-to-interception ratio.

After picking up impressive road wins at New England and Los Angeles, the Bills return home to play a poor San Francisco 49ers team that is struggling to find an identity under head coach Chip Kelly.

The Niners just named Colin Kaepernick as their starting quarterback, and while he is likely to do a better job than former starter Blaine Gabbert, it's difficult to see him doing enough to lead the Niners to a victory following a cross-country trip to Buffalo.

The Bills are 7.5-point favorites according to Odds Shark, and we see the home favorites stretching their winning streak to four games and getting the cover in the process.

Bills fans are sensing a potential five-game winning streak with a game at Miami coming in Week 7. The atmosphere for the visitors will be quite hostile, and the Bills will win by double digits.

The matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Oakland Raiders appears to be one where the linemakers have made a mistake.

The Raiders have met and exceeded all expectations this season and are tied for first place in the AFC West with a 4-1 record, while the Chiefs are a disappointing 2-2. The Chiefs were fairly lucky to beat the San Diego Chargers in Week 1 after trailing by 21 points late in the third quarter. The only solid game they have played this year came in a Week 3 win over the Jets.

Despite the Chiefs' uninspired play, the game in Oakland is rated at even.

The Raiders have the fourth-ranked offense in the league, and quarterback Derek Carr is off to an impressive start, throwing for 1,383 yards with an 11-2 TD-to-interception ratio.

While Latavius Murray (toe) has not been very effective running the football with 172 yards, the duo of Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree have already combined for 55 catches, 811 yards and six touchdowns. Crabtree, in particular, seemingly makes spectacular TD catches on a weekly basis.

While the Chiefs are a veteran team that demonstrated consistency by winning 10 straight games to close the 2015 regular season, they have not demonstrated that characteristic to this point. The defense should be its strong point, but it ranks 21st in yards allowed. Cornerback Marcus Peters is one of the few bright spots, with four interceptions.

The Chiefs have shown they can play well against the Raiders. They have won 17 of the last 26 games played in the series, and there is clearly a feeling in the Kansas City locker room that they can beat the Raiders.

We believe that the oddsmakers are inviting bets on the Raiders, but the Chiefs will come through once again. They are coming off their bye week, and head coach Andy Reid will have his team prepared for the Oakland passing attack. The Chiefs will get the key road victory, and their backers will celebrate.

The New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals have both been among the more disappointing teams in the NFL this season.

The Jets added running back Matt Forte in the offseason and appeared to have a dangerous offense that included wideouts Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker along with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. However, that offense has been running in neutral (or reverse) since their Week 2 win at Buffalo. Fitzpatrick has thrown a league-worst 10 interceptions, and the Jets have just the one win under their belts.

Decker was placed on injured reserve Wednesday with a shoulder injury. Decker needs surgery to repair his torn rotator cuff, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post.

The Cardinals are coming off a road win over the 49ers in Week 5, but that was just their second win this year. This was the team that many had seen as a potential NFC representative in the Super Bowl.

Does the win over the Niners mean the Cardinals have righted the ship and are on their way to saving their season? Possibly, but we need more proof.

The Cardinals are 7.5-point favorites to beat the Jets, which is just too much. The Jets are still capable of getting solid play from their defensive line and impacting the game with their pass rush.

Additionally, head coach Todd Bowles made his coaching bones in Arizona as Bruce Arians' defensive coordinator and will not allow his team to roll over here.

The Jets may not win, but this game will be decided by a late score in the final seconds. The Jets will get the cover.
