WWE NXT Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from September 28

Erik BeastonSep 28, 2016

Samoa Joe's threat to unleash pain and suffering over the roster if he was not handed the NXT Championship hung over the September 28 episode—no one safe from the wrath of the most dangerous man on the roster.

Who would experience the unpleasant beating the former champion unleashed?

How would Mandy Rose fair as she made her return to the squared circle, battling Ember Moon?

Would The Authors of Pain ever run into suitable competition?

Those questions and more were answered Wednesday night as the acclaimed brand hit the WWE Network airwaves.

Tye Dillinger vs. Angelo Dawkins

1 of 6

The Perfect 10 returned to the NXT ring Wednesday night, battling perennial job guy Angelo Dawkins in the night's opening contest.

The match was one-sided as Tye Dillinger ran over Dawkins, finishing him off with The Tye Breaker for the win.

After the match, Bobby Roode entered the arena and issued an invitation to Dillinger to be his partner in The Dusty Rhodes Classic.

Result

Tye Dillinger defeated Angelo Dawkins.

Analysis

The match itself was a whole lot of nothing, an excuse to get Dillinger back on television with a dominant win in time for the Roode partnership.

Dillinger and Roode may not be the most orthodox team in the world, and they don't have the experience, but they could very well be the tournament's most entertaining duo.

The Revival vs. The Ealy Brothers

2 of 6

The Ealy Brothers made their NXT Arena debut Wednesday and were poised to battle The Revival. Before they could square off with the tag team champions, Samoa Joe blew past Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder and brutalized the newcomers.

Rather than endure a similar fate, Dash and Dawson turned tail and headed to the locker room.

Analysis

Watching Samoa Joe bulldoze no-name enhancement talent is fun and exactly what he needs to rediscover his edge in a post-championship reign.

The Revival bailing rather than suffering a two-on-one beatdown was a nice touch.

Ember Moon vs. Mandy Rose

3 of 6

Mandy Rose made her return to the squared circle Wednesday night but was unlucky enough to run into Ember Moon, who remained undefeated by way of an impressive victory.

Rose delivered a knee lift at one point that stunned Moon and allowed her the opportunity to control the pace of the match, but the dynamic new competitor fought back, delivering her Eclipse finisher for the victory.

Result

Ember Moon defeated Mandy Rose.

Grade

C-

Analysis

This was a one-sided match that spotlighted Moon and never allowed Rose to really look that special, which is somewhat surprising given how much was made of her first match back.

Moon continues to look like the surest bet to challenge Asuka next and the greatest threat to the NXT Women's Championship, and rightfully so. The question now is whether or not the brand will slow-burn the feud or deliver the match in Toronto at TakeOver.

The Authors of Pain vs. Mr. 450 and Cruz

4 of 6

The Authors of Pain were in action again Wednesday night, this time battling the makeshift tandem of Mr. 450 and Cruz.

As every other team has to this point, they dominated en route to a victory via the still unnamed leg sweep/clothesline combo.

Result

The Authors of Pain defeated Mr. 450 and Cruz.

Analysis

If you have seen one Authors of Pain squash, you have seen them all.

At some point, it has to change in order to keep fans interested in the act.

Asuka vs. Liv Morgan

5 of 6

Anyone expecting a breakout performance from Liv Morgan Wednesday night was sadly disappointed by the events that unfolded.

Asuka systematically dismantled Morgan, putting her away with a submission most resembling Perry Saturn's old Rings of Saturn.

Result

Asuka defeated Liv Morgan.

Grade

C-

Analysis

Asuka demolished Morgan here, leaving no doubt in anyone's mind as to who the most dominant woman in NXT is.

The women's champion ... she is sure to lead the brand's female division well into the new year.

Morgan, who once looked like an energetic babyface poised to carry the mantle after Bayley departed, looked as weak as she has to date.

Hideo Itami vs. Lince Dorado

6 of 6

His rivalry with Austin Aries fresh in fans' minds, Hideo Itami battled cruiserweight Lince Dorado in the main event of this week's show.

Itami exploded out of the gate, but Dorado's well-timed dropkick turned the tide. He was able to control the middle portion of the match, grounding the Japanese star.

The babyface fought back into the match with a springboard clothesline. Dorado slithered out of an attempt at the Go To Sleep, but the masked competitor's missed Shooting Star Press led to the GTS for the win.

After the match, Aries attacked Itami but was forced to retreat as his rival mounted a comeback.

Result

Hideo Itami defeated Lince Dorado.

Grade

B-

Analysis

On a show with so many meaningless matches, this was a fun conclusion.

Itami continues to look more motivated than ever before, while Dorado impressed once again.

The feud between Itami and Aries is one that could be a great deal of fun, but it's missing one big, intense beatdown by Aries to give him any semblance of hope against an Itami who appears poised for a major push going forward.
