Alberto Del Rio Quits, Triple H Is Back and Top WWE News for Week of September 3

The Doctor Chris MuellerSep 3, 2016

As always, it's been a busy week for the men and women of WWE. Let's take a look at some of the bigger stories from the last seven days.

Mr. Fuji Dies

TOP NEWS

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

The wrestling world lost another legend this week when Mr. Fuji, real name Harry Fujiwara, died on August 28 at the age of 82, according to WWE.com.

Fuji was an accomplished wrestler, but most WWE fans will remember him as the salt-throwing manager of WWE Superstars like Yokozuna.

He also became known as one of WWE's funnier characters, thanks to several video segments filmed with Don Muraco.

They don't make talents like Mr. Fuji anymore. He will be sorely missed.

WWE Announced NXT TakeOver Event For Survivor Series Weekend

WWE.com announced the next TakeOver event will take place on November 19 in Toronto. This will be the first time NXT has held a big show north of the border, and we all know how raucous Canadian wrestling fans can be.

No matches have been announced yet, but there is a good chance we will see Samoa Joe receive his rematch for the NXT Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura.

NXT is continuing to expand, and holding more international events will only continue to broaden its appeal to WWE fans.

WWE cleaned out many of the top names during the brand split, but there is still a plethora of talent in the developmental system capable of stealing the show from the main roster.

Triple H Returns, Helps Kevin Owens Win Universal Championship

Monday's Raw featured one of the most unpredictable endings to a main event we have seen in quite some time.

During the Fatal 4-Way match for the Universal Championship, Triple H returned and cost both Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins the chance to be champion by delivering two Pedigrees.

Owens' convincing look of surprise led many to believe even he didn't know how the match would end, but it's far more likely he is a good actor than Triple H genuinely keeping him in the dark.

This is a huge storyline development for Owens, Rollins and The Game. With Owens and Triple H in an alliance, we could see Rollins move back toward being a babyface so he can feud with his former mentor.

Whatever happens, it's great to see WWE continuing to build new talents by giving them a chance with a major championship.

The New Day Wants To Host Saturday Night Live

WWE Superstars have hosted Saturday Night Live before, and a few Superstars known for their comedic personalities have thrown their hats in the ring for a job as future host.

Xavier Woods took to Twitter to suggest The New Day should host SNL, and as soon as he posted the message, Seth Rollins jumped on board:

Out of all the people on the roster, The New Day would make the best-possible hosts. The wrestling stable has been doing WWE skits for quite some time, and its chemistry would carry over to the late-night comedy show.

Fans have been retweeting the message to show their support, so hopefully NBC sees it and considers bringing the power of positivity to the SNL stage.

Alberto Del Rio Done With WWE

According to Raj Giri of Wrestling Inc, Alberto Del Rio has exercised an out clause in his contract that allows him to leave WWE before his deal is supposed to end in October.

This comes as little surprise after the former world champion was suspended for a wellness policy violation last month alongside his girlfriend, Paige.

"Mexico's Greatest Export" never reached the heights he did during his first run despite a memorable return to the company when he defeated John Cena for the United States Championship at SummerSlam 2015.

Del Rio is known around the world as one of the sport's best technicians, so he will have no trouble finding work. He may even end up back with Lucha Underground if the company is able to offer him enough money to return.

CM Punk Finally Making UFC Debut

After two years of training and recovering from injuries, we have finally reached the week of CM Punk's UFC debut.

Punk will battle Mickey Gall at UFC 203 on September 10 in Cleveland in a fight where everyone who follows MMA considers him an underdog.

Punk is much older and less experienced than Gall, but that doesn't automatically mean he is going to lose. Anyone who has ever competed in a martial arts contest will tell you a lucky punch or a single mistake can change a fight's direction in the blink of an eye.

Many fans would love to see Punk pull off an upset and win, but most are just hoping he is able to go the distance and avoid being knocked out or submitted.

Whatever happens, you can bet a lot of people will be tuning in to see him either fall flat on his face or shock the world with a victory.

What do you think? Does CM Punk have any chance of walking out of the Octagon with a win?
