Rutgers Basketball Boasts Impressive and Misleading Stat About Coaching Staff
When high school athletes go through the recruiting process, they are looking for a coaching staff and program that will give them the best opportunity to make it to the next level.
That's why bragging about how much success a coach has produced makes sense—unless the coach didn't do it at your program.
On Wednesday, Rutgers basketball decided to brag that student-athletes who have played under its coaching staff have gone on to make $1.1 billion.

That's right, $1.1 billion.
That is quite an impressive total. However, if you look into the program's history, you'll notice something is fishy. The Scarlet Knights have made it to just one Final Four in their program's history. In fact, they have just six NCAA tournament appearances—and none since 1991. Feel free to look at who the Big Ten Network listed as the best hoopsters to ever wear a Rutgers uniform.
Something doesn't add up. And the Connecticut Huskies certainly noticed:
That's right, Scarlet Knights head coach Steve Pikiell and assistant coach Karl Hobbs have each spent time at UConn—and now it all makes sense.
