Drew Gooden Released by Wizards: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction
Veteran forward Drew Gooden's three-year tenure with the Washington Wizards reportedly came to an end Thursday, as the team waived the 34-year-old.
ESPN's Marc Stein was the first to report the move, and the news was later confirmed by J. Michael of CSNMidAtlantic.com.
Per Spotrac.com, Gooden was set to make upward of $3.5 million during the 2016-17 season.
The No. 4 overall pick in the 2002 NBA draft has played for 10 different teams in 14 career NBA campaigns. He boasts career averages of 11.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists.
Gooden is coming off perhaps his worst season, as he appeared in just 30 games and averaged a career-low 2.7 points per contest to go along with 2.8 rebounds.
The former Kansas standout's last productive season came in 2011-12, when he put up averages of 13.7 points and 6.5 rebounds for the Milwaukee Bucks, but he has played sparingly in the four years since then.
While Gooden is unlikely to be utilized as much more than a big body off the end of the bench at this point in his career, he has 790 games of NBA experience to his credit and could be an attractive addition to a playoff team for the veteran's minimum.
