Spencer Dinwiddie Traded for Cameron Bairstow: Latest Comments and Reaction
The Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons have agreed to a deal that will send Spencer Dinwiddie to the Bulls in exchange for Cameron Bairstow.
The move was officially announced by the Bulls on NBA.com.
Kevin Pelton of ESPN.com noted that neither Dinwiddie nor Bairstow are locks to make their new teams' rosters next season since both of their salaries are not guaranteed:
"I'd handicap Dinwiddie's chances better since the Bulls could use a better backup behind oft-injured Derrick Rose. Chicago also gets more time to decide since Dinwiddie's contract doesn't become partiality guaranteed until the start of the regular season. Bairstow has a July 25 guarantee date, per BasketballInsiders.com.
"
Dinwiddie thanked the Pistons for his time with the organization:
While the Bulls will always need depth at point guard as long as Rose is their primary starter, the Pistons aren't starved for another big man. Andre Drummond is one of the best centers in the NBA, and Aron Baynes is a good backup who averaged 6.3 points and 4.7 rebounds in 81 games last season.
Neither player was much of a factor last season. They played in a combined 30 games, with Dinwiddie only playing in one of Detroit's four playoff games against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Both players will enter the final year of their rookie contracts next season and will each make just under $1 million, per Basketball-Reference.com.
The Bulls are in the process of rebuilding their roster to fit with the style that head coach Fred Hoiberg plays. This will just be the first step in what should be a busy summer for the franchise.
The Pistons are riding high after making the playoffs for the first time since 2009 and finishing over .500 for the first time since 2007-08. Head coach Stan Van Gundy knows his roster needs some tweaks to compete with the top teams in the Eastern Conference, so this will likely be a prelude to bigger things.
