Corey Kispert to Gonzaga: Bulldogs Land 4-Star SF Prospect

Scott PolacekMay 4, 2016

The Gonzaga Bulldogs added a sharpshooter to their 2017 recruiting class on Wednesday.

Small forward Corey Kispert, who is listed as a 4-star prospect by 247Sports’ composite rankings, tweeted that he will “join the Zag family”:

The 6’6” and 190-pound Kispert is the No. 119 overall recruit in the 2017 class, per 247Sports' composite rankings. He is also listed as the No. 24 small forward and the No. 3 prospect from the state of Washington, which means Gonzaga head coach Mark Few deserves credit for landing one of the best in-state players in the 2017 recruiting cycle.

Jake Brown of Scout.com’s Irish Illustrated noted Kispert visited Notre Dame in April. There were also a handful of West Coast programs interested in him, including Utah, Washington, Washington State, USC, Oregon State and Stanford. However, the Seattle native elected to join a Gonzaga team that has made each of the last 18 NCAA tournaments.

Kispert discussed what stood out about the Bulldogs during his recruitment, per Josh Gershon of Scout.com:

"

Gonzaga is really good at player development. If you look at Kyle Wiltjer and Przemek Karnowski, those guys transformed into athletes that they weren't before. Gonzaga has one of the best fan bases and student sections around. They really emphasize a strong family aspect; the players really support each other.

"

According to 247Sports, Kispert is the first commitment in Gonzaga’s 2017 class.

However, the cupboard is far from bare considering the Bulldogs have a five-man 2016 class, per 247Sports. Only Rui Hachimura is listed as a small forward among that crowded 2016 group, so Kispert will provide important depth moving forward.

Hudl.com shared some of his highlights from his 2014-15 campaign:

The first thing that jumps out about the small forward’s game is his ability to shoot. He will stretch the defense as a versatile 6’6” playmaker, but he can also post up smaller defenders and even drive to the basket with solid ball-handling skills.

Scout.com said Kispert “will be able to play multiple positions at the next level” and pointed to his combination of size and strength on the defensive end and glass.

Kispert has the talent to compete for playing time right away as a member of the Bulldogs, especially since he can fill a number of different roles on the court and consistently drill shots from behind the three-point line.
