Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady vs. The Vaudevillains: WWE Payback Preview and Pick
Two of NXT's hottest tag teams graduate to the main roster in spectacular style on pay-per-view this Sunday.
WWE Payback 2016 is the setting for Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady and The Vaudevillains to try to move within one victory of becoming the WWE tag team champions just under a month since stepping up from NXT into the big leagues.
If fan support dictated which side was the victor, Enzo and Cass would be overwhelming favorites to progress and score a win in their pay-per-view debuts.
However, things aren't always that simple. Let's assess the impact both sides have made thus far and their interactions and make a pick for the match.
Enzo and Cass
Since they debuted the night after WrestleMania 32, Enzo and Cass have been on an unstoppable run to the top.
The most entertaining thing about the duo is their outstanding mic skills. Enzo Amore has the gift of gab and is a superb talker on the stick, while Colin Cassady is a phenomenal support man.
Their in-ring efforts have been admirable as well, including a notable victory against The Dudley Boyz. They wrestle well, and they talk even better.
They look like a side that has the full package, and the thought of Enzo and Cass feuding with The New Day is mouthwatering.
Even if they don't get the job done this time, their time will come as a top tag duo in WWE.
The Vaudevillains
We've seen much less of The Vaudevillains in contrast to Enzo and Cass. They debuted after the loud, brash duo of Amore and Cassady, making their first showing on the SmackDown after WrestleMania.
That seems strange if WWE wants to push the duo to the top of the division, although with so many debuts in such a short span of time on Raw, it did give fans a reason to tune into SmackDown.
They've also done a decent job inside the ring, and bringing them up as heels was the right move.
They're annoying, cocky and arrogant, and if booked properly, they will be a hit.
Fans of NXT will worry that The Vaudevillains are going to go down the same route as The Ascension, another recent graduate of NXT's tag team scene.
However, the team seems to have much more about it, and both Aiden English and Simon Gotch have unique looks and stacks of ability.
Their limited time in the ring with Enzo and Cass was intriguing, and it sets things up nicely for Sunday.
Pick
Take Enzo and Cass as the outright favorites if there is no controversy, but expect a spanner to be thrown in the works.
When the duo debuted on Raw the night after WrestleMania, it was The Dudley Boyz who they initially set their sights on.
Bubba Ray and D-Von have lacked a proper babyface team to rival with since turning heel, with their feud against The Usos not working out as planned.
It also feels like that rivalry has legs left in it with plenty of time left to run. So to that end, the pick is The Vaudevillains after The Dudley Boyz cause the distraction and prevent Enzo and Cass from winning.
