Mike Sims-Walker Offered to Take Blame for Brandon Marshall 2012 Alleged Punch
Former NFL receiver Mike Sims-Walker, who was Brandon Marshall's roommate at Central Florida, offered to take the blame in a civil lawsuit regarding the New York Jets receiver allegedly punching a woman in 2012.
"If I need to, I'll take the blame; I'll say I hit her," Sims-Walker texted Marshall, per Dom Cosentino of NJ Advance Media on Wednesday.
Sims-Walker's role in the incident was revealed Wednesday as part of jury testimony in the case. Marshall did not ask Sims-Walker to take the blame, and text-message evidence shows he declined the offer altogether.

The Pro Bowler is accused of punching a woman outside a New York City nightclub in March 2012. Christin Myles, 28, has asked a jury to award her $75,000 in damages for an incident she claims left her unable to see out of her left eye. Darryl Slater of NJ Advance Media reported a portion of Myles' testimony:
"I know who did it. I remember who did it. I shouldn't have been punched that night. He had no reason to. I want justice for what was done to me. It wasn't right. He did something wrong. It shouldn't have happened. I want him to own up to what he did. He needs to admit to what he did. He punched me.
"
Police chose not to charge Marshall with any crime related to the incident. Officers were unable to find enough evidence to verify Marshall's involvement.
Cosentino noted on Thursday that, "A witness who testified Thursday afternoon at Marshall's civil trial here told the jury Marshall did not punch anyone on the night a woman claimed Marshall punched her outside a Manhattan nightclub four years ago." He continued:
"Dacson Spears, a former security supervisor at the club, Marquee, where the alleged incident took place, told jurors he came to the club that night with friends to hang out even though he wasn't working.
Spears testified that he saw the events that transpired out on the sidewalk outside the club—"I was able to see everything," he said—including that Marshall was chased by several men who had come rushing out of the club just after the alleged punch happened.
But Spears also said Marshall did not punch anyone and that Marshall did not hit a woman.
"Absolutely not," Spears said.
"
According to both sides' testimony and video evidence, the altercation began inside the nightclub and spilled out into the street. Marshall's wife was struck with a bottle, and Sims-Walker also claims to have been struck by a woman. As noted by Cosentino, Sims-Walker can be seen throwing a punch inside the club. The recollection of what happened outside, however, has been vastly different on both sides.
"We were defending ourselves," Sims-Walker said. "We did nothing to nobody. We were totally victims in this case. I don't understand why we're even here."
Sims-Walker went on to say "no one" laid a hand on a woman.
Marshall was traded from the Miami Dolphins to the Chicago Bears within days of the incident happening. The NFL did not punish him.
Sims-Walker, a former third-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars, has not played since the 2011 season.
