Player to Watch in Each Game
Syracuse vs. Virginia: Virginia G Malcolm Brogdon
Virginia is a team that prides itself on defense. Heading into the tournament, it was allowing an average of less than 60 points per game.
But in the Big Dance, it has shown some chinks in the armor after giving up 69 to Butler in the second round and 71 to Iowa State in the Sweet 16.
In two of the first three games, UVA senior Malcolm Brogdon has been a non-factor of sorts offensively, as he put up 11 points against Hampton and 12 against Iowa State.
Regardless, Virginia was able to take care of its opponents, especially a solid Iowa State team, as CBS Sports' Jerry Palm watched:
He makes a good point, too. The ACC Player of the Year not playing a big part in Virginia's offensive success is huge, especially after he averaged over 18 points per game in the regular season. If he wakes up and gets his game going, watch out.
Earlier this season, Brogdon dropped 21 points on 46 percent shooting against Syracuse in a 73-65 Virginia win.
Against a Syracuse team that might have that feeling of destiny after just squeaking its way into the tournament, Virginia should expect a ton of pushback from the Orange. It will be up to Brogdon to show Syracuse and the nation why Virginia is the team to beat.
Notre Dame vs. North Carolina: North Carolina F Brice Johnson
The only way to describe North Carolina forward Brice Johnson is by using the word "menace."
Johnson can score from the inside with the best of them while displaying an athletic repertoire of moves to get to the basket:
He's also pretty difficult to score over, via NCAA March Madness:
Johnson has recorded a double-double in two straight NCAA tournament games against Providence in the second round and Indiana in the Sweet 16. In fact, according to A Daly Dose of Hoops, UNC head coach Roy Williams said Johnson is "one of the top two or three rebounders I've coached in 28 years."
The Tar Heels are going to need that kind of versatility on the inside against Notre Dame's Zach Auguste, who is averaging over 14 points per game this year while shooting almost 56 percent from the field.
If Johnson is able to limit Notre Dame's big man, then North Carolina is going to punch its ticket to the Final Four.
