Brice Johnson's Jersey Set to Be Honored in Dean E. Smith Center Rafters

Timothy RappMar 14, 2016

North Carolina senior forward Brice Johnson is set to have his jersey hung from the Dean E. Smith Center rafters after being voted a U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-America First Team selection, according to Ben Sherman of Scout.com and Andrew Carter of the Charlotte Observer.

His uniform will hang next to teammate Marcus Paige's jersey, per Brett Thompson of Inside Carolina.

Carolina Basketball shared Johnson's and head coach Roy Williams' reactions to the news:

"It means a lot, whoever thought I'd end up there—I never even thought I'd be here," Johnson told GoHeelsTV, per Sherman. "It's very special for me to be able to say that I can one day have my jersey hanging in there."

Johnson was excellent for the Tar Heels in 2015-16, averaging 16.6 points, 10.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. He had one of college basketball's best performances of the season when he scored 39 points, pulled down 23 rebounds and added three steals and three blocks in a January victory over Florida State.

Alongside fellow senior Paige, Johnson led North Carolina to an ACC tournament title this season and a No. 1 seed in the East Regional. Johnson expressed his excitement on Twitter:

The Tar Heels landed a tough draw, however, with No. 4 seed Kentucky and No. 5 seed Indiana as potential opponents at the top of the bracket. No. 2 seed Xavier and No. 3 seed West Virginia loom on the other side of the region.

Nonetheless, the Tar Heels remain one of the favorites to win an NCAA title, and the team will need Johnson to be dominant once again if they are to cut down the nets in Houston on April 4. It would certainly be the culmination of a fantastic season for the forward.
