The No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks fended off a strong challenge from the No. 9 West Virginia Mountaineers to win their 10th Big 12 tournament championship on Saturday.
The win secured the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA men's basketball tournament for the Jayhawks.
Kansas went through a rough first five minutes, but it recovered from a 6-0 West Virginia start with a pair of runs in the first half. Despite an impressive stretch during the first half, the Jayhawks went into the locker room down by one.
The key to the second half for Kansas was silencing Devin Williams, who only showed up in spurts during the second half. Williams recorded a career high of 31 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
West Virginia used its trademark press to come within reach of Kansas' lead late in the second half, but the Jayhawks sustained each test thrown at them by the Mountaineers.
Devonte Graham led the way for Kansas with 27 points, 15 of which came from three-point range. Wayne Selden also contributed 21 points for the Jayhawks.
