Jevon Carter scored a season-best 26 points for West Virginia (26-7), which collectively defended the Naismith Trophy finalist excellently. Hield connected on just 1-of-8 attempts, finishing with a single-digit total (6) for the first time as a senior.
Oklahoma (25-7) had notched two victories over the Mountaineers during the regular season and even recovered from an 11-point deficit in the second half. However, Jaysean Paige drilled the game-winning jumper with 11.2 seconds remaining.
West Virginia will battle No. 1 Kansas for the Big 12 crown on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET.
