Bo Ryan Investigation Reveals Coach Did Not Misuse School Resources in Affair
Following an investigation, former Wisconsin men's basketball head coach Bo Ryan was cleared of allegedly misusing university resources during an extramarital affair.
According to the Wisconsin State Journal (h/t ESPN.com), school chancellor Rebecca Blank released a statement that absolved Ryan of the accusations: "The university determined on May 13, 2015, that Ryan did not utilize university resources during the course of the relationship in question. The university concluded the issue was a private matter. Bo Ryan's resignation on Dec. 15, 2015, was entirely his decision."
The 68-year-old Ryan retired unexpectedly in December, but he said in a statement the affair had nothing to do with the decision, per ESPN.com:

"My wife Kelly and I believed that the University's findings concluded this matter. To be clear, this matter was absolutely unrelated to my retirement many months later. In fact, I timed my retirement intentionally to assure that Greg Gard got his hard-earned opportunity to coach the University of Wisconsin basketball team.
"
Ryan reportedly came under investigation when the woman he had an affair with emailed the university in February 2015.
Per ESPN.com, Ryan said the affair was unrelated to the University of Wisconsin: "I had a relationship with a woman who had no connection to the University of Wisconsin. That relationship ended nearly 1½ years ago. I revealed this issue openly to the University, and encouraged them to review any activity to assure them that no University resources were misused."
Ryan led the Badgers to the national championship game last season and ended his tenure at the school with a winning percentage of 73.7.
Despite the abrupt coaching change and the departure of star players Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker to the NBA, Wisconsin is a solid 20-10 on the season and has won 11 of its past 12 games under Gard.
With one regular-season game at Purdue and the Big Ten tournament left to play, the Badgers have a legitimate chance to take part in March Madness—which was all but inconceivable less than two months ago.
