Wednesday Recap
It was a largely straightforward day in Dubai for the seeded players involved, and none more so than for Djokovic, who beat Jaziri with consummate ease.
The Tunisian won just 15 points in the first set as the Djoker produced an outstanding display on his own serve and returned almost as strongly, breaking his opponent twice to claim the set in under half an hour, per Tennis TV:
Jaziri produced a monumental effort to take the opening game of the second set—just his second game in the match thus far—as Live Tennis revealed:
"MASSIVE #Jaziri hold, 1-0! Saved 5 break points. #Djokovic even looked human there!

Nevertheless, Djokovic quickly went a break up, and from there the result was never in doubt as he eased to a milestone victory, per Tennis TV:
The Serb will take on Feliciano Lopez in the quarter-finals, after the sixth seed overcame a valiant effort from Lukas Rosol and is hoping to continue improving, per the tournament's official Twitter feed:
Wawrinka's opening set with Skugor was less straightforward as the Croatian gave the Swiss a tough time.
Skugor performed resolutely as he denied the second seed even the opportunity to break until late in the set as the match followed serve. Eventually, Wawrinka's quality told and he was able to claim the lead with a single break. Live Tennis shared the stats:
"Not #Wawrinka's best set but he edges Skugor 7-5. Bet on the match & watch tennis at https://t.co/txueA5D56r pic.twitter.com/Q7Dw0M6u9v

The second was far more routine for the 30-year-old as he raced to a 6-1 victory. The tournament's official Twitter feed confirmed Thursday's order of play, and tennis writer Jake Davies welcomed the matchups in the quarter-finals:
Wawrinka will need to put in a stronger showing against Philipp Kohlschreiber than he did in the opening set against Skugor, or he could find himself exiting the competition earlier than planned.
