Hawkins' Status Unknown After Ankle Injury

Saturday, Jan. 2

Entering Saturday's contest, the junior had averaged just 2.8 points while playing 9.4 minutes per game for the No. 10 Wildcats. Against Ole Miss, he failed to score a point but did record one assist prior to suffering the injury.

However, he was coming off his best game of the season. He scored a career-high 13 points and added one rebound and one assist in 26 minutes Dec. 26 in a 75-73 win over the rival Louisville Cardinals.

His head coach, John Calipari, praised Hawkins after he sank two late free throws to help ice the game, per Mark Story of Kentucky.com.

"(Hawkins) never changed his demeanor the whole time. He defended. He’ll fight like crazy. … One of the great kids of all time. You want him to do so well, but he’s got to do it.”
