The game began with a scary moment as Xavier freshman Edmond Sumner went down hard on the court after a collision with Kris Jenkins. Sumner exited the court on a stretcher, but according to the Fox Sports 1 broadcast, he didn't suffer any severe injuries.
With Xavier still reeling from the emotional blow, Villanova put together a 13-0 run to separate itself from one of the other contenders for the Big East regular-season title.
The Wildcats sealed the victory at the start of the second half behind 13 consecutive points from Josh Hart, who made his first five field goals of the second stanza.
Daniel Ochefu recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Wildcats, while Phil Booth, Jenkins and Hart also earned over 10 points.
James Farr led the Musketeers with 15 points, while J.P. Macura added 12 in Xavier's first defeat of the season.
