Virginia and Villanova traded punches in the first half, and the Cavaliers went into the locker room with a four-point advantage.

Tony Bennett's team seemed to have the game locked up near the halfway point of the second stanza. Virginia went on a 14-0 run while the Wildcats missed nine straight field goals. Villanova, however, pulled itself back into the game.

Despite fighting back, the Wildcats couldn't stop Malcolm Brogdon and London Perrantes. After making one shot from downtown in the first half, the Cavaliers earned 21 points from beyond the arc in the second half.

In addition to the strong perimeter shooting, Anthony Gill had an impressive day in the paint against Villanova's undermanned frontline. Gill had 22 points and seven rebounds. Brogdon contributed 20 and seven for the Cavaliers, while Perrantes added 19.

Kris Jenkins led Villanova with 23 points, and Daniel Ochefu recorded 13.
