Ty Lawson Reportedly Suspended 2 Games for DUI: Latest Details and Reaction

Alec NathanDec 18, 2015

Houston Rockets point guard Ty Lawson has reportedly been suspended two games by the NBA following DUI charges, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

The punishment was handed down Friday following a "recent resolution in his court case," per Wojnarowski.

According to 9News.com's Allison Sylte, Lawson pleaded guilty on Nov. 19 to driving while impaired and failure to drive in a single lane after he was arrested on Jan. 23.

In July, Lawson was arrested again in Los Angeles on suspicion of DUI. The Denver Nuggets traded him to the Rockets less than a week later.

Wojnarowski also reported "the Rockets' front office has been cooperating with Lawson's representatives" as the two sides seek to find a new team for the point guard.

Wojnarowski added the team's desire to trade Lawson has not stemmed from his ability to meet off-court requirements. Rather, it's the result of an inability to mesh with the Rockets' scheme—which heavily features James Harden in ball-handling roles.

Bleacher Report's Sean Highkin offered his take on Friday's developments:

Following his July arrest, Lawson was ordered to spend a month in a residential treatment facility to address his drinking problem.

According to ESPN.com, Lawson's lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, said a stay at the Cliffside Malibu rehabilitation center would "ensure his sobriety."

Since arriving in Houston, Lawson has failed to meet expectations. Although he opened the season as the team's starting point guard, he was quickly relegated to a reserve role following a disappointing start.

After averaging 6.7 points and 4.3 assists in November, Lawson has mustered just 3.4 points and 3.8 dimes per game in December.

On the season, Lawson is averaging a career-worst 5.9 points on 32.9 percent shooting from the field and 29.4 percent shooting from three.

Through 26 games, the Rockets are 7.7 points better per 100 possessions with Lawson off the floor, according to NBA.com's stats database.

With Lawson out for Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers and Monday's showdown with the Charlotte Hornets, Patrick Beverley should continue to see a majority of the minutes at point guard.

Jason Terry and Marcus Thornton could also see a bump in minutes as the Rockets search for stability next to Harden.
