“It just buckled on me,” Yates told reporters after the game. “We don’t know for sure until the MRI, but it doesn’t look good.”
Weeden Gets Another Chance Under Center After Yates' Injury
The Texans signed Yates in late October as an emergency backup of sorts, but he played well enough to win his first start of 2015, a 24-17 victory over the New York Jets in Week 11. The 28-year-old has had to stand in for an injured Brian Hoyer but may struggle to get back on the field now that he's out of the lineup.
Cannon-armed former first-round pick Brandon Weeden is next up for the Texans at quarterback. Weeden failed to become the franchise quarterback the Cleveland Browns desired, just as Hoyer did, and was released by the Dallas Cowboys earlier this season.
Weeden has undeniable talent and a legitimate No. 1 receiver in DeAndre Hopkins to lean on. The Texans' fate likely comes down to quarterback play, and Yates' injury will further harm their postseason hopes.
