Daily Fantasy Football December 3: DFS Stock Up, Stock Down
Week 12 of the NFL season was filled with a few shocking finishes, some nearly disastrous injuries and obviously some huge fantasy days. The question is, which players saw their stock rise, and which saw their stock fall when all was said and done?
The man above, Scott Chandler, is looking like he could be in for a big Week 13, while other players, including one star wide receiver, are staring a disastrous finish to 2015 in the face.
Let's get right into the stock report for Dec. 3, and we'll kick it off with a man who bounced back in a big way after seeing his team lose two straight games heading into Week 12. Time to talk about that good old Red Rocket.
Stock Up: Andy Dalton, QB, Cincinnati Bengals ($6,400)
1 of 6
Andy Dalton was apparently not very happy about his Cincinnati Bengals suffering two losses in a row against the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals. In Week 12 against the St. Louis Rams, Dalton hit the ground running, completing 74.1 percent of his passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns.
His stat line actually could have been even more stellar, but the Bengals were up essentially the entire game. While Dalton had a solid fantasy outing (26 points) in Week 11, he had just 9.98 points against the Texans the week before. Were we concerned? A little, but not too much.
Dalton has been excellent this season, and while his stock may have gone down just a bit, it's definitely on the rise once again. Best of all, this week, he gets a Cleveland Browns team that has to be feeling defeated after that brutal Monday Night Football finish in Week 12.
Stock Down: Charcandrick West, RB, Kansas City Chiefs ($5,200)
2 of 6
Let me start this by saying I have a ton of respect for what Charcandrick West has done since Jamaal Charles went down for the year. During a three-game stretch starting in Week 7, he topped 22.2 fantasy points in each game. West scored a touchdown in every game while also catching nine passes over the span.
So why is his stock going down? Two words, Spencer Ware.
While West should be back in action in Week 13, Ware is obviously going to be cutting into his workload quite a bit. In the past two games, Ware has received an extended workload, which has resulted in 30 carries for 210 yards and three touchdowns. Basically, Ware has been unreal.
This is nothing against what West has done on the field, but it's more about the fact that keeping Ware off the field won't be an easy task for Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Stock Up: Scott Chandler, TE, New England Patriots ($2,500)
3 of 6
Heading into Week 12 against the Denver Broncos, it was largely expected that Scott Chandler would get some extra work for the New England Patriots. The team was without both Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola, for starters, so they rolled out the two-tight end sets quite a bit.
Then, disaster (nearly) struck. Rob Gronkowski went down and was rolling on the ground in pain. While we now know Gronkowski should be back sooner than later, this doesn't mean Chandler isn't going to see an instant spike in his stock.
In Week 12, Chandler caught five balls for 58 yards and a touchdown while receiving 11 targets from Tom Brady. If you think Brady and Chandler haven't spent plenty of time this week gearing up for Week 13, think again. Expect Chandler to be a big part of what the Patriots do offensively, at least until Gronk returns from his knee injury.
Stock Down: Dez Bryant, WR, Dallas Cowboys ($7,500)
4 of 6
When Tony Romo returned from his shoulder injury, it seemed Dez Bryant would begin to go wild as we've seen in previous seasons. While he had a nice game with four catches for 45 yards and a score against the Miami Dolphins, he was all but shut down on Thanksgiving by Josh Norman and the Carolina Panthers.
His final stat line included two catches for 26 yards in that game. To make things even worse, Romo is out the remainder of the year after injuring his shoulder again. Bryant had one good game with Matt Cassel under center, catching five balls for 104 yards and a score against the Philadelphia Eagles, but it's obvious his stock is trending in the wrong direction.
At a cost of $7,500 on DraftKings, it's tough to justify using him with options like A.J. Green, Larry Fitzgerald, Mike Evans, Allen Robinson and Brandon Marshall all close in cost. Bryant's stock isn't looking good, and unfortunately, I don't see it turning around anytime soon.
Time to look elsewhere for the answer at wide receiver until Bryant proves otherwise.
Stock Up: Javorius Allen, RB, Baltimore Ravens ($5,400)
5 of 6
Javorius Allen didn't absolutely leave us stunned after his first start for the Baltimore Ravens, but he did impress.
Allen finished up the game with 12 rushes for 55 yards (4.6 yards per carry) while catching four balls for 29 yards and a touchdown. Allen's now scored 16.5 and 18.4 fantasy points over his last two games, showing that the upside is absolutely there.
At a cost of just $5,400, he's a pretty strong value play at this point as well. Next up for the Ravens? A Miami Dolphins team that has lost two games in a row and is dealing with its own defensive issues. I think the man nicknamed "Buck" should be able to run wild against the Dolphins and will also catch his fair share of passes.
With his stock trending upwards, don't shy away from using Allen in Week 13 against the Dolphins, who have allowed 1,324 rushing yards and nine touchdowns to opposing running backs this year.
Stock Down: Todd Gurley, RB, St. Louis Rams ($7,300)
6 of 6
Welcome back down to earth, Todd Gurley.
The man who is the second-highest priced running back on DraftKings at $7,300 has failed to impress in the past two weeks. After topping 17.9 fantasy points in each of the six games before Week 11, we saw things shift a bit.
Gurley rushed 25 times for 66 yards (2.6 yards per carry) against the Baltimore Ravens, but his fantasy day was saved by a touchdown. In Week 12 against the Cincinnati Bengals, he rushed just nine times for 19 yards while catching one pass for 11 yards. The final fantasy total? Four points.
Obviously, it's likely Gurley should turn it around eventually. Unfortunately, he now draws a tough matchup against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 13, who have allowed just 728 yards and five touchdowns to opposing running backs all season. Gurley's stock looks like it may remain in trouble this weekend, so he's probably not the guy to spend on if you want to pay big for a running back.
