NFL Picks Week 12: Final-Score Predictions, Vegas Odds and Updated Lines

Steven CookNov 25, 2015

Thanksgiving weekend in the NFL does mean a watered-down Sunday slate of games, but it's a small price to pay for a holiday full of pigskin.

Even though Sunday's schedule won't feature quite as many contests as we're used to, it will be on the heels of a Thanksgiving Day trio of action involving a number of teams fighting for their chance to crash the postseason party. It also features an unbeaten 10-0 squad, which nobody can be upset about—unless you're the Dallas Cowboys.

Only one more day separates us from the trifecta of Thanksgiving Day games, so let's go ahead and dive into all of the Week 12 odds, along with predictions for each game, before taking a close look at one of the top matchups of the week.

Philadelphia Eagles at Detroit Lions

Upon first glance, the Philadelphia Eagles looked to be wrapping up a relatively soft three-game schedule on Thanksgiving with a trip to face the hapless Detroit Lions.

Now, Philadelphia is licking its wounds after a two-game losing streak and prepares to face a Detroit team finally finding some sort of momentum for the first time all season.

After an overtime win over Dallas a few weeks back, Philadelphia eyed a three-game slate of the Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Detroit to put its claim on the NFC East heading down the stretch. But the Eagles lost to the first two teams, the latest in humiliating fashion in a blowout defeat to rookie quarterback Jameis Winston and Tampa Bay.

To make matters worse heading into the short week, they are without some awfully important players in practice, as the team's Twitter noted:

Philadelphia was also without starting quarterback Sam Bradford Sunday against the Bucs, and his absence loomed large. Backup quarterback Mark Sanchez struggled and threw three interceptions, while the Eagles couldn't establish the ground attack that is so central to their offensive success.

While head coach Chip Kelly might be entering a hot-seat situation for the first time in his NFL career, a Thanksgiving win on the road couldn't come at a better time. But even that will be hard to come by.

The Lions may be 3-7 and in the midst of a lost season, but you can't tell by the way they're playing of late. Their two-game win streak is the longest out of any team in their division or Philly's, and they're playing noticeably better on both sides of the ball.

The last thing Philadelphia wants after getting torched by Tampa Bay's iffy offense is to face Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson, both of whom are coming into their own after some horrible struggles earlier in the season. The desperation will be there for both sides, but that will go the way of the team that is playing much better football at the moment.

It's just hard to see the Eagles turning around their horrid struggles in just four days' time on the road.

Prediction: Lions 20, Eagles 17
