Report: Biggest Spenders in Men's CBB 🤑
The field is led by No. 5 Duke, who dropped their first real test of the season Tuesday night when it fell 74-63 to No. 2 Kentucky.
The Blue Devils are led by sophomore guard Grayson Allen, who is averaging 20 points per game through his first three games of the season. But a six-point effort against Kentucky in which he battled foul trouble for most of the night won't sit well with him.
A point guard, Allen was driving to the basket far too often instead of facilitating the offense, which wasn't sitting well with Sports Illustrated's Seth Davis:
With the likes of 6'9" senior forward Amile Jefferson, Allen doesn't need to try to exploit the paint, especially when Jefferson is averaging a big man's double-double of 15.3 points and 12.7 rebounds per game this season.
He'll be a handful to defend for VCU, whose only player over 6'9", Michael Gilmore, has played just 20 minutes over the first two games. If the Rams want to stop Jefferson, they'll need more from Gilmore. If not, 6'7" Mo Alie-Cox is going to be very busy.
On the other side of the bracket, Wisconsin will need a good showing in the 2K Classic to help reclaim some pride after their season-opening loss to Western Illinois—even more so after this scheduled tweet went out, as captured by Sports Illustrated:
While the team has rebounded with wins against Siena and North Dakota, those aren't necessarily quality wins.
Georgetown might not help their case either, as the team lost its first two games, one to Radford. The other was a bit more forgivable after giving No. 3 Maryland a run for its money, but the Hoyas lost by four.
If Georgetown plays Wisconsin like it played Maryland, it will be moving through, but no one is going to stop Duke.
Prediction: Duke defeats Georgetown to win 2K Classic
