Rex Ryan Comments on Potentially Adding Twin Brother Rob to Bills Coaching Staff

Joe PantornoNov 17, 2015

It hasn't been an easy couple of days for Rob Ryan, formerly the defensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints, whom the team fired on Monday. While he writes a new chapter in his football career, he can take solace in knowing that his brother, Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan, always has his back.

Rex spoke with the Buffalo News' Vic Carucci on Tuesday:

According to Ryan Wilson of CBSSports.com, though, Rex said his brother will "take some time" away from football.

For Rex, there are not very many reasons as to why he would want Rob as a coach on his staff in Buffalo. In 2015, Rob's Saints are dead last in the NFL in yards allowed per game (424.7) and points per game (31.5) as they've sputtered to a 4-6 record in the NFC South.

It's nothing new for Ryan with the Saints either. Last season, New Orleans had the 31st-ranked defense in the league.

Rex's Bills don't exactly have the epitome of a shutdown defense, but anything this season has been better than the Saints defense. If Buffalo wants a personnel change at defensive coordinator, which has never been speculated, it's doubtful it would go with Rob.

However, if Rex does want to bring his brother onto Buffalo's coaching staff, Rob was the linebackers coach for the New England Patriots from 2000-2003, when he won a pair of Super Bowl rings.
