2016 NFL Mock Draft: Breaking Down Post-Week 10 Predictions

Ryan McCrystalNov 16, 2015

We've reached the point of the NFL season where fanbases are starting to throw in the towel and study up on the 2016 draft class.

Week 10 losses by the Browns and Cowboys likely sent those fanbases in that direction, joining others such as the Lions and Chargers.

While it's never fun to reach that point with your team, the good news is the 2016 draft provides an exciting group of future stars and potentially one of the better classes in recent years.

Notable Picks

2. Cleveland Browns: Paxton Lynch

Johnny Manziel's opportunities have been limited, but he's done very little to demonstrate that he's the long-term answer in Cleveland.

Presumably, Mike Pettine and his staff will give Manziel an opportunity to win the job in the final weeks of the season; if he fails to show dramatic improvement, the team will be forced to look closely at the quarterbacks in this draft class.

Paxton Lynch and Jared Goff are at the top of the class, and a case can be made for either to be the first off the board.

"

Assuming the Browns front office remains intact, some of the same qualities that attracted them to Manziel could draw them to Lynch.

Lynch has the mobility and awareness to create plays out of nothing, but he also has the ability to make plays within the pocket, which Manziel seems to lack.

6. Dallas Cowboys: Ezekiel Elliott

Darren McFadden has shown flashes of effectiveness since taking over for Joseph Randle. However, McFadden is 28 years old and has battled injuries throughout his career, which will force the Cowboys to look for a more reliable, younger option in 2016.

Rarely do running backs come off the board inside the top 10 (just six in the past 10 drafts), but this would be a unique situation.

Not only is Elliott a prospect worthy of top-10 consideration, but the Cowboys will be looking for an instant-impact player in hopes of making a playoff run behind a healthy Tony Romo in 2016. A young star running back such as Elliott is more likely to contribute immediately than a prospect at almost any other position.

We're seeing the impact Todd Gurley is having in St. Louis this season, and Elliott could make a similar contribution in Dallas next year.

24. Seattle Seahawks: Nick Martin

Dealing starting center Max Unger to the Saints for Jimmy Graham was supposed to add a new dimension to the Seahawks' offense, but the lack of consistent play from the offensive line seems to have hurt more than Graham has helped.

Entering Sunday, Seahawks center Drew Nowak ranked 24th among centers on Pro Football Focus, with a grade of 53.5. And his struggles presumably led to him being inactive for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

"

C Drew Nowak goes from starter to healthy scratch. If Patrick Lewis gets hurt, Lemuel Jean-Pierre will back him up.

Adding an offensive lineman early in the draft should be a high priority for Seattle, especially if it fails to add an impact lineman in free agency.

Martin, younger brother of Cowboys guard Zach Martin, has been a three-year starter at center for the Irish and a two-time team captain.

31. Carolina Panthers: Corey Coleman

MANHATTAN, KS - NOVEMBER 05: Defensive back Duke Shelley #8 of the Kansas State Wildcats brakes up a pass in the end zone intended for wide receiver Corey Coleman #1 of the Baylor Bears during the second half on November 5, 2015 at Bill Snyder Family Sta

Ted Ginn has been surprisingly productive for the Panthers at the age of 30, but imagine how dangerous Cam Newton's offense could become with a younger deep threat to complement a healthy Kelvin Benjamin in 2016.

Coleman is rewriting the record books at Baylor this season, but he is much more than just a product of head coach Art Briles' system.

Listed at 5'11" and 190 pounds, Coleman doesn't have the size to consistently win the battle for contested catches like his potential teammate Benjamin. But Coleman makes up for his size limitations with crisp routes and an explosive burst to get behind the defense.

While he's only a junior, it would be a surprise if Coleman didn't take advantage of his attention-grabbing season and carry that momentum into the 2016 draft.
