NFL Picks Week 10: Examining Recent Odds and Expert Predictions

Steven CookNov 12, 2015

When deciding what picks to make—or not make—across any given slate of NFL games, the wisest move is always to take in as much information from as many directions as possible.

That's what we're doing entering Week 10. With the season more than halfway over, it could be argued that we either know more or less about the league and its hierarchy from top to bottom than we knew before the 2015 campaign began.

With that in mind, let's take a look at some of Bleacher Report's National Lead Writers' straight-up predictions for the weekend, along with spreads for every game on the Week 10 slate.

Marquee Week 10 Matchup

Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos

One week, a team can make the most convincing of statements and look virtually invincible before wilting the next week. That's what's happened to the Denver Broncos over the last couple of weekends.

You would've been hard-pressed to find anyone who didn't paint the Broncos as the league's worst 6-0 team just a few weeks back, but that all changed when they soundly dominated the fellow unbeaten Green Bay Packers, 29-10. The demise of Peyton Manning seemed awfully exaggerated after that, and the defense was playing lights-out.

Then, a trip to Indiana happened, and the Broncos were jumped by the Indianapolis Colts.

Once again, Manning looked a shell of his former self, and a streaky running game completely evaporated against a defense thought to be shoddy. The 39-year-old added two interceptions to his league-high total of 13, telling the story of a quarterback losing his once-perfect touch down the field.

Cameron Wolfe of the Denver Post offered a closer look into Manning's struggles, with a tidbit from head coach Gary Kubiak:

"

Manning has thrown interceptions on 4.3 percent of his passes, or one out of every 23. That's his highest rate since his rookie season. His 62.3 percent completion rating also is the third lowest of his career.

"You can get hot not turning the ball over and go a long period time, too," Kubiak said. "We need to do that."

"

With all this being said, all the Broncos did was lose one game. And despite falling into a 17-0 hole in Indianapolis, Manning and Denver did find their way back from that deficit and made it a tie ballgame in the fourth quarter.

Facing the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, there's no doubt revenge will be on the minds of the Chiefs after their defeat back in Week 2. Alex Smith has his offense peaking, while the defense is beginning to show signs of life.

What's more, head coach Andy Reid is somewhat of a master at post-bye-week games, per David Kromelow of Sports Krunch:

Yes, the Broncos are banged up, but most of their injuries that will keep players out Sunday come on the defense. That's a defense that will still have the speed and versatility to limit a Chiefs offense that hasn't exactly been dangerous this season.

Meanwhile, both of Reid's post-bye-week defeats have come as coach of the Chiefs. And not many of those games had to come against one of the NFL's best teams. Now that the Broncos have tasted defeat and have some revenge of their own to implement, Manning and Co. should pull out this divisional victory.

Prediction: Broncos 30, Chiefs 20
