Geno Smith Comments on Rumors Surrounding Fight with IK Enemkpali
With the Buffalo Bills and IK Enemkpali set to come to town Thursday night, New York Jets backup quarterback Geno Smith discussed the incident that left him with a broken jaw prior to the season.
Smith was penciled in as New York's starter under center, but he suffered a broken jaw after Enemkpali punched him over what Brian Costello, Howie Kussoy and Bruce Golding of the New York Post reported was a $600 debt.
Smith reportedly owed Enemkpali the money as compensation for a plane ticket to Enemkpali's football camp that he ultimately didn't attend. According to Kimberley A. Martin of Newsday, however, the controversial quarterback claims that wasn't the case.

"I didn't owe him,'' Smith said. "No. That's the biggest misconception in America.''
Enemkpali was released following the incident, so Thursday's game will mark the first time that he is on the same field as Smith since the locker room altercation took place.
It isn't likely that Enemkpali will get a chance to lay a hit on Smith since Ryan Fitzpatrick will start at quarterback for Gang Green, but the pass-rusher will be front and center prior to the contest, as Bills head coach Rex Ryan announced him as a captain, per Tyler Dunne of the Buffalo News.
Although Ryan always makes players captains against their former teams, a narrative has developed that he is somehow attempting to troll the Jets with his decision.
Regardless of the motivation, it doesn't bother Smith one bit, according to Martin:
"I mean, how can I feel some type of way about somebody else's decision? You've got to know this business. He's the Bills' head coach. I don't hate anyone. I don't hate him, I don't hate IK. It's whatever to me, honestly. It's like "OK? Big deal." I don't care who's a captain or coaching what. If there was some type of shot that was supposed to be [aimed at me], I didn't get that message.
"
Enemkpali has been silent on the subject of punching Smith leading up to Thursday's game, but one can only assume going up against the team that cut him will provide some extra motivation.
Smith claims he doesn't feel the same way in terms of facing Enemkpali; however, the quarterback's teammates will have an opportunity to rally around him if they buy what he's selling regarding the circumstances surrounding the altercation.
