Dolph Ziggler vs. Rusev Announced for WWE Night of Champions 2015 PPV

Joseph ZuckerSep 7, 2015

As expected, Dolph Ziggler and Rusev will carry their rivalry over to WWE Night of Champions. Ā  Ā

On Monday night's edition of Raw, WWE confirmed a singles match between the two will take place on the Sept. 20 pay-per-view:

Frankly, the sooner WWE decides to end this blood feud the better.

Both guys have missed stretches during the last few months because of injuries, both legitimate and likely kayfabe, which has hurt the overall narrative. The "controversy" caused by Summer Rae entering Ziggler's locker room last week wasn't the way to create a compelling storyline:

As WWE Creative Humor astutely pointed out, the seemingly unbeatable aura around Rusev—which was damaged by his feud with John Cena—has all but evaporated:

Making matters worse with regard to Rusev-Ziggler, WWE announced earlier Monday that Lana will likely miss at least four months after suffering a wrist injury. Taking her out of the picture leaves almost no reason for Ziggler and Rusev to be feuding at all, so Night of Champions will surely be the blowoff match.

Maybe having Lana out of action will force WWE to call an audible and go in a different direction with Rusev vs. Ziggler. Perhaps the company will pull a double turn at Night of Champions and make Rusev the babyface and Ziggler and Summer Rae the heels.

No matter what, at least fans know they have only a few more weeks until the angle has run its course.
