Williams Seen Wearing Neck Brace

Tuesday, Sept. 22

Dan Hope of OrangeAndWhite.com posted a photo of Williams working with the team while wearing the device:

Williams' MRI Revealedย

Sunday, Sept. 6

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said Williams' MRI revealed a "small fracture in his neck area" but the "prognosis is great for him," according to Dan Hope of OrangeandWhite.com.

"Heโ€™ll have an opportunity to play again. Whenever that is I have no idea," said Swinney, per Jared Shanker of ESPN.com.

While there is always a great deal of concern regarding injuries to the head and neck area, Clemson had positive news about Williams' status on Saturday, as he had movement in his extremities while being taken to the hospital, perย Shanker:

Clemson later updated Williams' status, saying the wideout was standing and had full use of his extremities, per Brad Senkiw of the Independent Mail.

As seen in this video, courtesy of ESPN College Football, the incident occurred when the 6'4" junior attempted to make a touchdown catch in the first quarter against Wofford:

While Williams was able to hang onto the ball, medical personnel immediately tended to him when it became clear he was in distress.

His absence is significant for a Tigers team that leaned heavily on him last season to the tune of 1,030 yards and six touchdowns.

Clemson didn't have much of an issue getting past the Terriers on Saturday, but if Williams is forced to miss an extended period of time, the Tigers will need increased production from young pass-catchers such as Ray-Ray McCloud III and Artavis Scott.
