Charlotte will look to become the second WWE star to capture both the NXT Women's Championship and the WWE Divas Championship when she takes on Nikki Bella at Night of Champions on Sept. 20, per WWE.com.
Charlotte battled both Becky Lynch and Paige in a Beat the Clock Challenge on Monday night's edition of Raw. Whoever beat her opponent in the quickest time was set to earn a title shot at the next pay-per-view. Charlotte posted the best time, defeating Brie Bella in one minute, 40 seconds, per WWE:
While almost certainly disappointed she won't be getting the shot, Lynch will still be rooting for her fellow Team PCB member:
Jason Solomon of PWMania.com wonders if that team cohesion will last through Night of Champions:
It feels long overdue for Bella to defend the Divas Championship at a meaningful event. In recent weeks, fans have gotten the impression that WWE is solely concerned with Bella overtaking AJ Lee as the longest-reigning Divas champion rather than elevating the title itself.
According to the Internet Wrestling Database, Bella's last title defense at a non-house show was at Beast in the East on July 4.
It's one thing for WWE to say women's wrestling is important now; it's another to build each Diva as an important wrestler with a defined character and defined motivations. The company has failed at the latter.
Having Charlotte battle for the belt should, however, reignite the "Divas Revolution," which has seemed to stagnate lately.
