5-Star Reese Alston, Son of 'Skip to My Lou' Rafer, Makes CBB Commitment Between Kentucky, LSU, More
Top point guard prospect Reese Alston committed to LSU, he announced alongside his family on Thursday.
Alston is a 5-star prospect who's listed as the No. 3 point guard and No. 9 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings.
He chose to join LSU and head coach Will Wade over finalists including Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee and Wichita State.
"The internet makes coach Wade out to be somebody he's not," Alston told ESPN's Paul Biancardi (h/t ESPN's Jeff Borzello). "He has kept his word and showed up ... He's made me a priority."
Alston also received offers from schools including Purdue, Kansas, Houston, Florida State, Texas and USC.
He ultimately chose to join the Tigers after visiting their campus on Sept. 3.
"When I went on campus and saw how I fit and the environment, that really stuck out to me," Alston said, per 247Sports' Brandon Jenkins. "Everyone has questions about coach Wade, but I feel what he showed me over the summer through trusting in me and displaying qualities he possesses as a head coach was very crucial to me."
Alston is the son of former NBA guard Rafer Alston, who suited up for six teams across his 11 seasons in the association.
The younger Alston currently plays in high school for Houston Second Baptist and is coming off an impressive 2025-26 season in which he helped lead his team to its second straight TAPPS 5A State Championship. He averaged 22.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.7 steals per game.
Alston is the third member of LSU's 2027 recruiting class, joining 4-star combo guard King Gibson and 4-star power forward Ahmad Hudson.
For the 2026-27 season, the Tigers are looking to return to the NCAA tournament as Wade begins his second stint as head coach after failing to make a March Madness appearance in each of the prior four years.
