NXT TakeOver Brooklyn 2015: Samoa Joe vs. Baron Corbin Preview and Prediction

Sebastian MaldonadoAug 21, 2015

A battle between two unstoppable forces will take place August 22 in Brooklyn at NXT TakeOver.

Samoa Joe and Baron Corbin will battle head-to-head for the first time at the Barclays Center. Their encounter could shape the momentum of the rest of their careers.

Corbin is undefeated, besting every opponent in his way. Billed at 6’8” and 275 pounds, Corbin is the quintessential big man. The self-proclaimed “Lone Wolf” uses his size and strength to overpower his enemies.

Ironically enough, Joe does the same to a certain extent. The 6’2” 282-pound veteran also uses strikes and submissions to wear his opponents down.

These two gargantuan combatants are armed with arguably the most lethal finishing maneuvers today.

Corbin uses the End of Days. Corbin picks up his opponent with one arm and swings him back-and-forth, planting him face-first on the mat.

Joe uses the Muscle Buster. He places his opponent on the turnbuckle then hoists him on his shoulders while holding his legs. Joe drops his enemy on the back of his head.

Both finishers are amazing to behold. They’re effective in ending both men’s matches.

However, their personal story began August 12.

Corbin was doing what he did best: unleashing his path of destruction. He took a microphone and stated how the outcome is the same when facing him: Corbin victorious.

Out came Samoa Joe. The veteran told the young man he was impressed. But Joe declared he wouldn’t become another of Corbin’s victims.

Corbin attacked Joe and almost got the upper hand. Joe reversed the End of Days into his patented Coquina Clutch, putting Corbin to sleep.

The next week featured Joe dominating only to be ambushed by Corbin after the match. Corbin defeated Joe with the End of Days and stood tall over his opponent.

Now, Joe and Corbin are on a collision course for NXT TakeOver Brooklyn. The Barclays Center will have their version of two monsters fighting on a grand stage.

It’s a huge test for Corbin due to Joe’s storied history in the independent circuit. Joe traveled all over the world until landing at NXT. He made his name in Europe and Japan, as well as Ring of Honor and TNA.

Joe went to a no-contest with former NXT champion Kevin Owens on June 17. He’s laid waste to everyone in his way.

Corbin knows a thing or two about being undefeated. His first loss came to Neville on February 4.

Corbin has beaten many impressive NXT Superstars, including Bull Dempsey and Rhyno. Yet, none of them is Samoa Joe.

Joe’s fought the toughest men around the globe. He’s even encountered some of the WWE’s biggest names during his world conquest, including John Cena, Seth Rollins and Daniel Bryan. They all felt the wrath of Joe.

This match will be a true battle of big men. Corbin will try to overpower Joe. However, it won’t work.

Joe utilizes speed and his technical prowess to win matches. He’s a master in submission wrestling and is a better striker than Corbin.

While Corbin has the heart to continue, he needs to check his ego at the door.

Corbin must acknowledge that Joe has a great chance of walking out of Saturday’s bout the victor. His back is against the wall, and Samoa Joe’s coming to get him.

In return, Joe must also not come into Brooklyn arrogant. He needs a clear head and to stick to the game plan of wearing Corbin down. After all, Baron Corbin is not to be trifled with.

Samoa Joe should come out victorious over Baron Corbin. Then again, don’t be surprised if Baron Corbin prevails with one of the biggest victories of his career.
