Jahmyr Gibbs Addresses Injury Scare After Awkward Slide Instead of Scoring TD for Lions vs. Packers

Timothy RappOct 25, 2026

Jahmyr Gibbs went down awkwardly late in the fourth quarter as he attempted to slide down and waste the remainder of the clock before the Detroit Lions kicked a game-winning field goal, appearing to twist his leg backwards.

But it sounds as though Gibbs will be just fine:

Gibbs, 24, rushed for 116 yards in the win and added five catches for 27 yards. But much to the chagrin of fantasy enthusiasts everywhere, he twice passed on the chance to score a touchdown on the team's final drive, instead going down so the Lions could continue running clock while preventing Green Bay from getting one last chance with the ball.

On both occasions it was the smart, and unselfish, play. But it appeared his cleat got stuck in the turf the second time around, leading to an unnatural and concerning fall.

A Gibbs injury would have been a brutal finish to what was a very strange win for the Lions. Detroit was 0-for-2 on fourth downs, had two turnovers and finished with just 20 points despite putting up 415 yards of total offense. They were bailed out on several occasions by questionable penalties called against the Packers, dropped passes down the field and two missed field goals by Trey Smack.

Ultimately, a win's a win. But it will feel a whole lot sweeter with Gibbs seemingly avoiding serious injury.
