Odell Beckham Jr. Takes J.J. McCarthy's Old Vikings Jersey Number After Practice Squad Contract
There's a new No. 9 on the Minnesota Vikings.
Veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will be wearing No. 9 after signing Wednesday with the Vikings' practice squad.
No. 9 was most recently worn in Minnesota by quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who was traded to the Giants Sept. 28. McCarthy is wearing No. 18 with his new team.
Beckham opened the season with the Giants before he was released by the team Sept. 29.
He played 19 offensive snaps and received three targets with no catches before he was let go. Head coach John Harbaugh said after his departure the Giants hadn't been "getting enough" out of the veteran wideout.
Beckham started out his NFL career wearing No. 13 while recording three consecutive Pro Bowl campaigns with the Giants.
He also wore No. 13 after joining the Cleveland Browns before later donning No. 3 with the Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins.
Beckham last saw regular-season NFL action for the Dolphins before he was waived by the team in December 2024. He sat out the 2025 season after starting the campaign on a PED suspension.
He made his NFL comeback this offseason with the Giants, wearing No. 3 during training camp and the preseason before switching to No. 13 ahead of his regular-season return.
Quarterback Jake Haener is wearing No. 13 with the Giants following Beckham's release.
The Vikings already had wide receiver Tai Felton wearing No. 13, while star wideout Jordan Addison has claimed No. 3.
Beckham will now hope his new number coincides with a new shot at the NFL as he looks to earn more snaps down the stretch of the season.
