NBA legend Hakeem Olajuwon's son, Abdul-Malik Olajuwon, made his college basketball decision on Thursday.

Abdul-Malik told ESPN's Paul Biancardi that he has committed to SMU.

He's a 4-star prospect who's listed as the No. 4 shooting guard and No. 66 player in the country as part of the 2027 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings.

Abdul-Malik received offers from several schools including Auburn, Minnesota, Kansas State, Virginia Tech, TCU, Texas Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia.

The younger Olajuwon currently plays at IMG Academy in Florida and has also put together an impressive performance on the 2026 Nike EYBL circuit.

Abdul-Malik averaged 12.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 42.7 percent from the field and 31.3 percent from three-point territory this year.

He also made his presence felt defensively, recording 28 steals and 14 blocks across 20 EYBL contests.

Abdul-Malik was still scheduled to visit Kansas State and Virginia Tech before Thursday's decision, but ultimately committed to the Mustangs after traveling to their campus on Sept. 25.

"Their belief in me, and their plan for me with their system, fits me very well," Olajuwon said, via ESPN's Jeff Borzello. "They play to win, and that's my style. Coach [Andy] Enfield sees me making an impact as a freshman, playing point guard and helping on the defensive end."

"My dad was with me on the visit and feels that this is a great decision for me," he added. "I also leaned on my older brother, who's been through the process and told me not to think only about basketball, but to think long-term."

Abdul-Malik's older brother, Aziz, is currently entering his freshman season at Stanford.

As for SMU, the Mustangs are coming off a 2025-26 campaign in which they finished with a 20-14 record and made their first March Madness appearance since 2017.
