New Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua Rumors, Latest Update on Status of Fight Amid Buzz

Amid ongoing speculation about contractual disagreements, the Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua fight scheduled for Dec. 11 looks to be back on.

Per Ariel Helwani of Uncrowned.com, the heavyweight showdown "is back on track" after both sides went through a 48-hour negotiating period to work through the issues and a press conference is expected to be held on Wednesday.

The long-rumored bout between Fury and Joshua was officially announced on Sept. 24.

However, the following day Mike Coppinger of Ring Magazine reported "issues" popped up that threatened to cancel the fight and potential replacement bouts were being discussed.

Per Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix, the primary issue is Dana White's involvement as a promoter of the fight.

Mannix noted Turki Alalshikh, a Saudi government official and co-founder of Zuffa Boxing with White, is "bankrolling" the fight and wants White involved with the promotion, but Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, "have a contract that says Zuffa can't" help promote the bout.

Things between the two camps reached the point where Fury said on his YouTube channel over the weekend there was only a "one percent chance" the match with Joshua happens.

Assuming the fight happens as currently planned, it will mark the culmination of a years-long attempt to get Fury and Joshua in the ring together. They both signed a two-fight contract back in 2021, but no dates were announced at the time.

The deal fell apart in part because an arbitrator ruled in 2021 that Deontay Wilder was owed a third fight against Fury.

There have been various stop-and-start moments between Fury and Joshua in the years since, but this marks the first time an official date and venue have been announced for the matchup.

Wednesday's press conference is the next major hurdle on the way to the fight. All indications are it is set to take place in London at British Airways ARC to announce the bout.
