BS Meter on WWE's Roman Reigns vs. LA Knight Plan, The Rock at WrestleMania 43 Rumors and More
The pro wrestling rumor mill has never been hotter. Or, more correct.ย
Not an exaggeration, either. With WWE suddenly letting wrestlers in the main-event scene win titles, the rumblings from the mill keep looking good. Sami Zayn's win over CM Punk recently had plenty of rumors to back it up.ย
And what do wrestling fans know? This week, buzz around WWE's very top title-holder by the name of Roman Reigns headlines the rumors. It's not alone, either, not with updated buzz about Punk, Penta and others there, too.ย
To help fans keep pace with the supercharged rumor mill, let's throw the must-know rumors on the BS Meter, with 10 being the highest form of unbelievable buzz fans can safely dismiss.
Big PLE plans
1 of 6
The Rumor
Big rumblings about future plans for WWE this week. According to WrestleVotes (h/t Cain A. Knight of Cageside Seats), WWE will have a PLE on November 7 no matter what happens with their travel plans to Saudi Arabia. Keeping things international, Fightful Select (h/t Knight) reports that WWE's three-year deal could mean one of the "big three" PLEs going there by 2028.ย
Reaction
On the topic of Australia tour dates, the report specifically calls out Royal Rumble and Survivor Series. Makes sense, as the presence of an overseas WrestleMania already means no PLE is immune to hitting the road. Or, well, water.ย
BS Meter: 1
Easy buy on both counts. WWE has November 7 earmarked, so the company will run something, even if not in the originally planned host locale. And yes, rewarding a very involved overseas fanbase as WWE continues to push globally with the biggest of PLEs is just smart business.ย
Kelani Jordan latest
2 of 6
The Rumor
Kelani Jordan has arrived and isn't going anywhere. According to WrestleVotes (h/t Tom Araya of Rajah), the NXT Women's Champion's recent appearance on the main roster was a way to introduce her to a much bigger audience.ย
Reaction
Jordan was a fun surprise during a recent episode of Raw when she worked with the debuting Lola Vice and Raquel Rodriguez in a Money in the Bank qualifier match. No win, but the appearance was great and indeed seemed to serve its purpose.ย
BS Meter: 1
It should go without saying, but the report mentions that Jordan will hit the main roster soon enough. These types of high-profile appearances will certainly help.ย
Penta title match fallout
3 of 6
The Rumor
Reigns and Penta put on a classic in Mexico City. According to Lucha Libre Online (h/t Geno Mrosko of Cageside Seats), backstage "executives" were very impressed with Penta and he's now viewed as a long-term main-event presence.ย
Reaction
Tip of the hat to Reigns, who just keeps putting on banger title defenses while elevating others. But yes, when Penta came to WWE in the first place, fans knew his major upside all too well, so his match and the fallout aren't too shocking here.ย
BS Meter: 1
Sometimes fans need to just believe what their eyes can see. Penta more than held his own against Reigns and, at one point, probably even had veteran fans thinking he might actually pull off the upset. He's very obviously a main-event player and will be for a long time if WWE uses him that way.ย
LA Knight upsetting Roman Reigns?
4 of 6
The Rumor
Is Roman Reigns the next major title-holder to lose? According to Ibou of Self Made Sessions (h/t Knight), an idea making the rounds right now is Knight pulling off the win over Reigns at Money in the Bank.
Reaction
If Cody Rhodes and Punk can do it, why not Reigns? Talk about a way for him to earn even more goodwill by finally being the guy to give Knight his big moment. Knight deserves it, too, and like Sami Zayn, doesn't even need to hold it for a long time. But it should probably happen, no doubt.ย
BS Meter: 1
Look, this is exactly the type of thing a promoter would leak to get fans invested in an upcoming major event, right? But at the same time, it's pretty easy to presume that the decision-makers behind the scenes are at least considering it.ย
Zayn-Punk-Kevin Owens title buzz
5 of 6
The Rumor
Zayn beat Punk in a shocker and indeed, Kevin Owens keeps floating around that scene, too. According to Ibou (h/t Knight), one of the beliefs making the rounds is that Zayn only won so that WWE can get the top title on Owens.ย
Reaction
This isโฆconvoluted. Why can't Punk just drop the belt to Owens, then? Maybe Punk is stepping away for a bit while the two "friends" go at it at the top? Or there's some majorly unforeseen overall roadmap WWE is following here.ย
BS Meter: 5
If WWE wants the belt on Owens, it would have put it there. The rumor mill throwing this out is more convenient and assisted by obviousness than anything else. That said, it's nice to see top titles actually being up for grabs and names like Zayn and Owens very much in the mix.ย
The Rock at WrestleMania 43?
6 of 6
The Rumor
Here come WrestleMania rumors about The Rock. According to WrestleVotes Radio (h/t Jeff Whalen of Rajah), WWE creative is proceeding with business as usual, not planning any Rock involvement.ย
Reaction
Talk about an annual rumor. There are never plans for The Rockโฆunless the man himself makes time in his schedule and wants to play a part. Whether that happens this year is hard to say, but given the sour taste his recent appearances have left in the collective mouths of fans, the comeback would need to be epic.ย
BS Meter: 1
Easy enough. If Rock wants to take part, WWE will find a way to make it work. That might even include, for better or worse, revamping main-event scene plans. But until he makes that known, there's no reason for WWE to book around the very slim chance he wants to be at WrestleMania.
