Wrestling Legend Bill Dundee Dies at 82, Memphis Wrestling Superstar Competed in AWA, WCW, More

Pro wrestling legend "Superstar" Bill Dundee died Sunday at the age of 82, WWE announced.

Per TMZ, Dundee's son, former wrestler Jamie Dundee, aka J.C. Ice, announced on Facebook that his father died at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. A cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.

TMZ noted that Dunee "had also dealt with serious health issues in recent years," and "his son previously revealed that the wrestling legend had been diagnosed with dementia."

Born as William Cruickshanks in Scotland and raised in Australia, Dundee started wrestling in his home country in the 1960s before traveling to the United States years later. He became a key figure in the wrestling scene in Memphis for his work alongside Jerry "The King" Lawler, who was his biggest rival as well as his former tag team partner, winning the AWA World Tag Team Championship twice.

In addition to his work inside the ring, Dundee worked as a booker in several wrestling territories for decades. He had a brief run in the NWA's Jim Crockett Promotions as well as a stint in WCW in 1993-94.

Dundee was inducted into the Memphis Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2017, and he wrestled his final match two years later.

Just one day before his passing, Dundee was honored during Saturday's episode of Memphis Wrestling, with members of the roster greeting him and paying tribute to him throughout the show.
