Todd Golden, Florida Agree to 3rd Contract Extension in 3 Years, Full Details On HC's Deal

Florida men's basketball coach Todd Golden has reportedly had his contract extended for the third time in as many years.

Golden signed a one-year extension earlier this month that stretched his deal through the 2031-32 season, Mark Long reported for the Associated Press.

He also received a $1.5 million raise that brought next season's salary to $7.5 million, per Long.

His contract is now worth a total of $49.5 million, of which he would be owed 85 percent if fired without cause, Long reported.

Golden is heading into his fifth season with the Gators, which he led to a national title in 2025.

Florida is coming off a 2025-26 campaign during which the Gators went 27-8 to win the SEC regular-season title before a third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament ended with a second-round loss to Iowa.

The extension increased Golden's buyout to leave for another college program by $5 million to $16 million through the 2026-27 season, according to 247Sports' Graham Hall.

Golden's buyout to leave for the NBA sits at $3 million over that span, Hall reported.

The adjusted contract also ties Golden to Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin, Hall noted.

Stricklin's departure from his current position at Florida would lead to next season's college and NBA buyouts for Golden dropping to $5 million and zero dollars, respectively, Hall reported.

Golden agreed to a six-year, $40.5 million extension in May 2025 after his team's national title run. That previous extension brought his average annual salary to $6.75 million.

That deal came about a year after Golden signed a two-year extension worth $4.1 million annually in March 2024, shortly after helping Florida qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in three seasons.

Golden's most recent extension brought his salary to an annual average of $8.25 million per year, according to Long.

According to salary data compiled by USA Today, only Kansas' Bill Self, UConn's Dan Hurley and Arkansas' John Calipari are set to make more than $7.5 million next season.

Golden will now rank as one of the highest-paid coaches in college basketball alongside UNC's Michael Malone, who is also set to earn $7.5 million next season.
