WWE Superstar of the Week for August 15

The Doctor Chris MuellerAug 15, 2015

This column is getting harder to write every week, and believe it or not, that's a good thing. So many people are stepping up in WWE these days that picking just a few to highlight is difficult.

Perhaps everyone is trying harder to make SummerSlam more appealing, but the more likely reason is the recent additions to the main roster have forced everyone else to rise to his or her level.

Before we get to the Superstar of the Week, let's examine a few people who deserve to be recognized for their efforts.

TOP NEWS

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

Honorable Mention: Stephen Amell

Whenever a celebrity gets involved in a feud with a Superstar, many of us cringe. Based on past experience, we know they will usually flop.

Luckily for everyone, WWE finally found someone who is popular, athletic and a big enough wrestling fan to do what it takes not to embarrass himself or his opponent.

Stephen Amell not only showed off his athleticism when he jumped the barricade and the ring ropes with ease, but his spear and the elbow shots he delivered to Stardust actually looked passable.

Later that night in a backstage segment, Amell stood right in front of Triple H and didn't flinch once while cutting a promo on Stardust.

The great thing about Amell is that he has a lot of the tools you need to be a successful wrestler. His role on Arrow includes delivering speeches to his enemies and learning intricate fight choreography.

That sounds an awful lot like cutting a promo and planning a match. It's great WWE gave him Neville as a partner so the whole match doesn't rest on his shoulders. With the way things are going, Amell could turn out to be one of the best celebrity wrestlers of all time. He'll definitely be better than David Arquette.

Honorable Mention: Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins might be booked as a cowardly champion sometimes, but there is no denying he is one of the most consistently entertaining wrestlers on the roster.

His promos are always watchable, and his matches usually steal the show. He is a great heel and someone who is worthy of holding the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

One of his better qualities is his willingness to sell for his opponents and look like a chicken when the situation calls for it.

People often forget heels aren't supposed to get clean wins or be the cool guy. They are supposed to make you want to see them take a beating from a babyface, and Rollins is someone who does that very well.

Rollins knocked it out of the park on both Raw and SmackDown this week, and it's a safe bet that he and Cena will tear the house down at SummerSlam.

Superstar of the Week for August 15: Bayley

It's too bad WWE couldn't find a way to include Bayley in the Divas revolution on the main roster. She connects with the crowd and has all the necessary skills in the ring.

If there is any upside to not being brought up with Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch, it's that Bayley will finally take her place at the top of the women's roster in NXT.

Bayley has picked up wins over Charlotte and Lynch in recent weeks, and she is set to face Banks at TakeOver: Brooklyn for the NXT Women's Championship.

Having the title will be great, but being able to say she defeated all three of the women who were just called up to the main roster in three consecutive matches will provide the best kind of bragging rights.

She stole the show both nights against Charlotte and Lynch, and there is a good chance she will do the same thing with Banks on August 22.

Make no mistake, Bayley is as talented as any of the women involved in the Divas revolution, but WWE was wise not to take all its best female talent out of NXT at once. Leaving Bayley behind ensures there is someone with credibility to help the newcomers get better.

With any luck, the company will bring Bayley up before WrestleMania 32 so she can participate in whatever multi-Diva match officials have planned.

For someone who could have easily come off as a joke with a hugging gimmick, Bayley has managed to carve out a name for herself as one of the best NXT has to offer. The crowd loves her, and she continues to give it a reason to with every match she wrestles.

What do you think? Was Bayley the Superstar of the Week? If not her, then who? Thanks for reading, and follow me on Twitter @BR_Doctor.
