Travis Hunter's Spot on Jaguars' WR Depth Chart Revealed by Liam Coen Ahead of 2026 Season

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen confirmed Travis Hunter's spot in the team's wide receiver pecking order this week.

After Hunter played exclusively at cornerback during 11-on-11 work at Jags practice on Monday, Coen told reporters, "We all know he's our 3A, 3B receiver right now, and [we're] trying to get him the exposure to every opportunity that we have out here. But right now, I mean, we need a lot of the communication, a lot of the repetition needs to continue obviously on both sides of the ball."

The Jaguars traded up to the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft to select Hunter, and the expectation was that he would see extensive action at both wideout and corner after playing on both sides of the ball collegiately at Colorado en route to winning the Heisman Trophy.

While Hunter did play both positions until a torn LCL cut his rookie campaign short after seven games, he was utilized much more as a receiver, playing 66.7 percent of the offensive snaps compared to 35.9 percent of the defensive snaps.

Although Jaguars general manager James Gladstone told reporters at the end of the 2025 season that Hunter would continue to be a two-way player in 2026, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported in April that the primary focus for Hunter would be cornerback, while setting into more of a part-time role at wideout:

The writing was perhaps already on the wall at that point since the Jaguars re-signed Jakobi Meyers and decided against trading Brian Thomas Jr., while also keeping Parker Washington in the fold.

All three of those wide receivers are listed ahead of Hunter on the Jags' depth chart, as Hunter has been tabbed as a second-stringer behind Thomas.

However, the Jaguars do have Hunter as one of three starting cornerbacks along with Montaric Brown and Jourdan Lewis.

Regardless of the Jaguars' depth at wide receiver, giving Hunter a full workload at two different positions while coming off a knee injury may have never been in the cards.

Of course, if Hunter shows he is 100 percent healthy and/or the Jaguars deal with some injuries to other key receivers, it won't be a shock if he sees his offensive playing time increase at some point during the 2026 season.
