Bo Ryan Uncertain Whether He'll Retire After 2015-16 Season
At the end of June, Wisconsin men's basketball coach Bo Ryan announced the 2015-16 season would be his last on the bench. But just over a month later, the 67-year-old has changed his tune.
According to the Post-Crescent's Tim Froberg, Ryan discussed the possibility of extending his stay in Madison during the U.S. Venture Open golf charity event on Wednesday:
"Everybody kind of thinks they know when they’re ready to retire, or step aside. I’m not totally sure. Barry said I could change my mind at any time. I haven’t submitted any papers yet. I haven’t submitted anything. As I was telling someone earlier, some of the offers these people made tonight, they made some offers I can’t refuse. So I might stay for another four or five.

Ryan went on to explain his rationale for the apparent change in heart.
"I was just trying to be up front and out in the open," Ryan said, per Froberg. "But I wouldn’t be the first guy in the country that ever thought about retirement and then changed their mind. I’m not doing anything revolutionary here."
Given the success Ryan has enjoyed with the Badgers of late, it's not hard to see why he would want to keep things rolling.
Wisconsin knocked off John Calipari's undefeated Kentucky team in a national semifinal before Duke emerged victorious, 68-63, in the NCAA tournament championship game.
Since Ryan arrived in Madison, the Badgers have captured three Big Ten tournament titles and four Big Ten regular-season championships while posting a winning percentage of .741 over the past 14 seasons.
According to Jeff Goodman of ESPN.com, Ryan said in June that assistant coach Greg Gard would replace him following the 2015-16 season, but that plan evidently could be put on hold.
While it remains to be seen how many seasons Ryan has left in the tank, Wisconsin has emerged as a national power during his tenure, and back-to-back Final Four appearances have set the tone for what should be a prosperous future.
