Derek Jeter Trolls Mets Fans Over Pete Alonso Exit in Video Amid 2026 MLB Season Struggles
Former New York Yankees shortstop and Baseball Hall of Famer Derek Jeter pulled some baseball cards during a Fanatics Fest event on Friday.
One of those cards happened to be of Baltimore Orioles first baseman Pete Alonso, a longtime New York Mets star who left for the O's in free agency. Alonso entered Friday with 21 home runs, 65 RBIs and an .820 OPS. The 41-57 Mets, who are languishing in last place, could use him.
Jeter reminded some Mets fans on scene of that fact.

Alonso left for a five-year, $155 million deal. The Mets never made a formal offer to keep Alonso. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com explained why.
"They never made a formal contract offer to Alonso, according to a source, because it became clear early in the process that the bidding would go to levels they weren't comfortable approaching," DiComo wrote.
Alonso was a five-time All-Star in his seven Mets seasons. He hit 264 home runs, including an MLB rookie record 53 in 2019.
The man nicknamed Polar Bear has ultimately moved on, though. The 46-51 O's are having their own struggles, though that isn't Alonso's fault, as Baltimore's pitching has been below average while a few hitters have encountered some tough seasons thus far.
The Mets and O's will face off this year as New York welcomes Baltimore into town for a three-game series from Sept. 14-16.
