Conor McGregor Shares Video Message After Suffering Knee Injury vs. Holloway at UFC 329
Conor McGregor is doing his best to remain optimistic after his return fight devastatingly ended due to a knee injury against Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 329 on Saturday night.
McGregor, who turned 38 on Tuesday, posted a video celebrating his birthday with his wife, Dee Devlin, and he appeared to get emotional as he gave a message to fans saying, "We'll be back."
McGregor made his long-awaited return to the Octagon after a five-year absence on Saturday night. After weeks of buildup and a record-breaking $25 million gate, his comeback fight ended early in the first round after he injured himself while throwing a jumping roundhouse kick in the opening moments against Holloway. He attempted to fight through the injury before it was clear that his right knee was unstable, forcing the referee to call off the bout after just 69 seconds.
In the aftermath of his disappointing return, McGregor announced that he would be undergoing surgery before attempting to complete the final fight of his UFC contract.
"Surgery. Prehab. Return to martial arts practice. Go again. Final fight of the contract," McGregor wrote on Instagram.
If McGregor manages to make another comeback, it's safe to say that this latest setback will make fans more hesitant to dedicate time and money toward watching him perform again. He also dealt with a fractured left ankle in his previous loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021, and he was forced to withdraw from his scheduled return against Michael Chandler in June 2024 due to a broken toe.
Despite his body breaking down, McGregor sounds motivated to continue his combat sports career, but it will take some time for him to recover from another disappointing showing.
