Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr. Admits Why He Can't Meet Michael Jordan Yet Despite Jordan Brand Contract
Despite being signed to Jordan Brand since 2023, New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. isn't in a rush to meet the company's namesake.
While speaking to Speedy Morman of Boardroom, Chisholm revealed that he doesn't want to meet Michael Jordan until he feels like he deserves the opportunity to shake hands with one of the greatest basketball players ever.
"Haven't planned it yet. I've got to get to that level first," Chisholm said. "If I don't feel like I'm at Michael Jordan level, I'm not trying to meet Michael Jordan yet. Let me win a ring first, or maybe another Silver Slugger — once I've got that, I'll be ready to go talk to Jordan."
Chisholm is a two-time All-Star and a 2025 Silver Slugger Award recipient. The 28-year-old is hitting .223 with 13 home runs and 37 RBI for the Yankees, who have a 54-42 record this season.
While Chisholm feels he needs more accolades to sit across from Jordan, he revealed that he had an interaction with the legend when he was a child.
"My stepdad — my first coach — took me to Jordan's celebrity softball game. Jordan was sneaking out the back, and I was a nosy kid who spotted him," Chisholm recalled. "I yelled, 'Jordan, Jordan, can I get your autograph?' He turned around and said, 'Nah — maybe he'll want your autograph one day,' and just kept walking. Didn't even look back."
That moment likely has stuck with Chisholm and remains the driving force behind his feeling that he needs to earn the opportunity to meet with Jordan.
